NO COMPETITION IN LIFE!
Galatians 6:4
But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. (KJV)
A man while jogging noticed a person about 0.5 km ahead; he could tell that the man was running slower than him and thought, ‘okay, I’ll try to catch him’. So, he started running faster so much that within a few minutes he passed the man (you’d think he was competing at the Olympics). ‘I beat him. Of course! He didn’t even know we were racing’ (2 Corinthians 10:12). However, he later realised he had been so focused on competing so that he missed his destination. He had gone five streets past his turn!
Beloved, that’s what happens when we focus on opposing one another. We try to outdo our colleagues, neighbours, friends and family members, to prove that we are more successful (Galatians 5:26). We spend our time and energy running after vain things and miss our path to destiny. Moreover, the problem with unhealthy competition is that it’s an ‘endless cycle’ leading nowhere (Proverbs 6:34). There will always be someone ahead of you; somebody with a better job, nicer car, more money, extra qualification, a prettier/handsome spouse and children.
Therefore, know it that, ‘you can be the best that you can be when you are not striving with anyone’. In fact, you become insecure when you pay worthless attention to others (Ecclesiastes 4:4). Instead, be blessed by what God has given you and maximise it (Philippians 4:13). There is no competition in destiny! Run your race as our text says and wish others well.
