DO NOT STEAL
Exodus 20:1-21 (15)
Do not steal. (CSB)
To steal is to take something that does not belong to us unlawfully. Our text encourages us not to steal because the devil’s first mission is to steal after which he kills and destroy. Which invariably mean that a thief, whether small or big, can destroy others by taking away their peace and valuables. The first question then, is: ‘are you a petit thief or a hardened one? Because, if you stylishly take whatsoever item, be it a pen or materials that seem useless in the office or elsewhere, it’s stealing which also includes forgery, abduction, embezzlement and burglary, among other thievery acts.
Secondly, are you guilty of any theft? When you desire another fellow’s possession or spouse, it’s stealing (Deuteronomy 5:21). Oh! If only what you’re interested in is to see people’s joy turn sour, you’re merely working under Satan’s mandate in John 10:10. Are you also an informant so that you don’t commit the act but strategise the plan (Proverbs 29:24)? If yes! You hate your life because shame (Jeremiah 2:26a) and destruction is the result (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
Beloved, the Biblical remedy for stealing is first to repent, confess and make restitution; which is to give back whatever you’ve taken forcefully or without permission (Proverbs 6:31). Above all, the fellow should find an authentic source of income to avoid temptations (Ephesians 4:28).
PRAYER
Hymn: Trust and Obey – John H. Sammis (1887)
1. Father, help me to obey Your command not to steal or covet anymore!
2. Lord, destroy every curse and force, compelling me to sin (cheat).
3. I receive the grace and power to return what I stole.
(THE MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Lord, raise help for my household, neighbours, nation and the church.
2. End-time tragedy, exclude me from your plan!
3. The evil decree issued to useless my life, potentials and friends, break!
HAPPY NEW MONTH OF GLORY AND FAVOUR!
