FREEDOM FROM PAST FAILURES
Psalms 118:22 – The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone. (NLT)
Read: Galatians 6:7; Jeremiah 26:13
Two brothers were convicted of stealing a sheep. For their crime, they were each branded on the forehead with the letters “ST” for “Sheep Thief.” One brother immediately ran to another country to build a new life. Even there, people asked him about the “ST” burned into his forehead. He continued wandering until he killed himself. The other brother took a different approach. He said to himself, “I can’t run away from the fact that I stole sheep. But that’s the past! I can stay here and win back my self-respect and the respect of my neighbours.”
The years passed, and the brother built a reputation for integrity. One day, a stranger saw him, now an old man, with the letters “ST” on his forehead. He asked a resident of the town what the letters stood for. The townsman replied, “It happened a long time ago. I have forgotten the details, but I think the letters are an abbreviation for Saint.”
Beloved, never neglect your shortcomings. Instead, deal with them, and the world will one day forget your failures and celebrate you. Don’t be deceived into thinking that when you continue on the wrong path, you will end well. What you cover up today can come back to ruin your life. Yes! It is terrible that you stumbled, but it becomes life-wrecking when you do nothing to correct it. Take the path of honour and rebuild your integrity. This may be a rough journey; however, in the end, you will become the stone that the builder rejected but is now the cornerstone. Be encouraged. The new you will overrule your past stigma.
