THE PUBLICAN 👣
Romans 5:1-11 (8)
But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (NLT)
Those days, the publicans were regarded as touts because they were tax collectors. One day, a publican and a Pharisee (so-called saint) went to pray. The publican prayed humbly for mercy while the Pharisee prayed nonchalantly; shouting and condemning the other man. Hence, the publican was justified above him (Luke 18:9-14). Similarly, in John 8:1-12, a woman was caught in the very act of adultery and was to get stoned. But, at Christ’s intervention, she got freed!
Beloved, we may have fallen to temptations such as lying, gossiping, immorality, covetousness, cultism, murder, witchcraft and backbiting among other tricks of the devil (Ephesians 6:11). And the fact is that, no matter how sweet sin might be, no man reaps lasting joy from it, because the wages of sin is guilt, fear and eventual death (Romans 6:23).
However, the good news today is that irrespective of the massiveness of your sins (Isaiah 1:18-19), Christ came purposely to redeem you, as confirmed in our text. Therefore, maybe you’ve been termed as a drug addict, tithe and offering robber, rapist or a chronic sinner like the publican? If you humble yourself, repent, surrender and plead for mercy (1 John 1:9); Jesus will set you free and give you a new beginning! (2 Corinthians 5:17). And when you’ve got saved, never continue in sin; for, there’s no grace for iniquity (Romans 6:1-2)

1. Father, please forgive all my sins and past mistakes (mention) and give me a second chance!
