People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness. (NLT)
“Sorry sir, I have been using your wife day and night when you’re not at home, in fact, much more than you do. I confess this now because I’m feeling very guilty. Hope you’ll accept my sincere apologies. I will pay if you wish to charge a service fee.”
The above message was what Graham received from his neighbour, after which he shot his wife dead. A moment later, he got another message: “Sorry sir, a spelling mistake… I meant WiFi, not Wife.”
Unfortunately, Graham had killed his innocent wife because of a ‘typographical error’. And while this may sound like a movie, we must be cautious of how we react to things. No wonder, Ecclesiastes 7:9 says, “Control your temper, for anger labels you a fool” (NLT). In other words, when the need arises, be sure to find out the other person’s version of an issue, and allow yourself room to think before you respond (James 1:19-20).
Beloved, what are those things we do openly or secretly that doesn’t differentiate us from Graham? For example, the indirect swearing we utter when we are annoyed goes a long way to destroying the offender and eventually ourselves. In particular, parents must cease from cursing their children in times of provocation; to preserve their destinies (Ephesians 4:29).
Conclusively, let Graham’s story serve as a caution to you; to operate with wisdom and patience as read in our text (Anger opens the door to sin and other deadly acts). Therefore, look before you leap, and when sending a message, ensure that you proofread it, so you don’t cause harm. Above all, sign up for Jesus if you haven’t done so. Let Him wash away your iniquities, anger, and excesses (2 Corinthians 5:17).
